TEXTOLOGY OF THE EAST: EXPERIENCE IN INTERPRETING AND TRANSLATING SOURCES
On November 26-28, 2012, the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences hosted the problem-based methodological conference "Textual Studies of the East: experience in Interpreting and translating Sources". According to the idea of its organizer, the Department of Written Monuments of the Peoples of the East, the conference was designed to give a new impetus to the creative cooperation of researchers who devoted themselves to various areas of the so-called classical Oriental studies and at the same time urgently needed a platform for discussing a wide range of problems related to the studied sources and- page 152 within the specified time frame. For the first time, a conference on similar topics was organized by the Department of Written Monuments in 2011 and has now become an annual event. This year it was dedicated to the 90th anniversary of the oldest employee of the department, an outstanding scientist, Doctor of Historical Sciences E. A. Davidovich. 25 reports were presented, including reports from researchers from Iran, Georgia and France. N. Y. Chapisova's opening lecture "Persian Classical Poetry: Towards the Problem of Understanding" was devoted to the semantic multidimensionality of Hafiz's ghazal and such a component of Hafiz's ambiguity strategy as the art of "competing with tradition". In the report, this issue was considered on the example of Gazelle No. 101 (on the Sofa edited by M. Qazvini and K. Ghani) - "Drinking and fun in secret". The researcher offered a description and analysis of the techniques used in the ghazal (direct and hidden quoting, paraphrase, allusion, mention of the well-known), which establish its links with pretexts of different types and levels (author's image, genre topos, specific work, myth, traditional wisdom), and showed that Hafiz, who uses so many lines of the Ghazal in a few lines, does not know the meaning of the word.
