Military builders of the Red Banner Black Sea Fleet of the Russian Federation have kept their promise to hand over the building of a branch of the Lomonosov Moscow State University, designed for 1,200 students, by the new academic year. Restoration of the former Lazarevsky barracks, which now houses the Sevastopol branch of Moscow State University, began in March 1999. According to Colonel Alexey Ryabov, Chief Engineer of the Construction Department of the Russian Emergency Service, this building, which has experienced two military destructions and restoration in its almost century-old history, was not used for about ten years before the start of work. Therefore, more than 300 tons of metal went to strengthen the walls and ceilings alone.
Military builders will have to build a number of other objects included in the complex of buildings of the branch, such as a hostel, a canteen... But today we can say that Sevastopol has created good conditions for local students of the Lomonosov Moscow State University. This is another gift to the city and the Russian Black Sea Fleet from the Moscow Government, which also financed this construction.
